KAT Strength and Conditioning was founded in 2016 by Adam Posthuma, who was frustrated by the lack of opportunities that the fitness industry had for passionate, educated trainers to connect with individuals seeking advice and guidance from a professional. Graduating from Western Michigan University with a B.S. in Exercise Science and experience in strength and conditioning with WMU’s football team, Adam landed his first job in the industry as a personal training manager. There he noticed the absence of certified trainers–despite claims made by the gym–and witnessed preventable, recurring injuries among the clientele, and basic exercises being demonstrated differently than what was taught in his formal education.

After he was advised to turn a blind eye on the reality and pitfalls of the situation and instead focus on making sales, Adam continued to look for a gym that shared his vision of connecting exercise education with the community. Throughout the years, he realized that this mindset of promoting sales over sustainable health and athleticism was not uncommon in the fitness industry. He also noticed many former colleagues and classmates leaving the industry all together, disheartened by their inability to make a living on helping others through fitness.

Determined to change the status quo, Adam founded KAT Strength & Conditioning with the fundamental objective to connect the individuals in the community wanting assistance in bettering their physical health with the individuals who are qualified to help them. Our mission is that simple. We want to help you achieve your fitness goals. In order to ensure the highest quality of fitness training, every member of our team has been selected based on their training experience and educational backgrounds.

We want you to train you efficiently like an athlete, while avoiding injuries. We also want to circumvent the exaggerated costs of one-on-one personal training without sacrificing quality and subjecting you to the one-size-fits-all approach of group training. Our model is adapted from the training style of elite athletes and combines personal training and group fitness elements in the form of small group training with individualized programs.
